Over the summer of 2026, we've done a LOT of work across our product lineup. If you read nothing else, take away this one message:

Time to upgrade all of your Rons Place Software products!

In case you've forgotten, here's our current lineup:

• Rons Data Edit (our CSV editor)
• Rons Data Compare (NEW - compare and synchronize two CSV files)
• Rons Data Stream (bulk CSV processor)
• Rons WebLynx (our link manager)
• Rons File Wrangler (NEW - was Rons Renamer, free upgrade)

Product Alignment

As a first step, we reviewed our products and decided where to focus our efforts going forward. Time has passed, the world has changed, and there are still only so many hours in the day.

It's never easy to let go of projects you've poured time and energy into, but ultimately we decided it was time to retire the following products:

• Rons CSV Editor (replaced by Rons Data Edit)
• Rons Renamer (replaced by Rons File Wrangler)
• Rons HTML Cleaner
• Visual Files Script Editor

These changes are now reflected on our product page.

New Products

Rons File Wrangler

Maybe not 100% new, but this is much more than a simple update to Rons Renamer. We decided that the core capabilities of Rons Renamer were worth keeping and, time permitting, expanding upon in the future.

Anyone who has Rons Renamer can upgrade for free.

Rons Data Compare

Rons Data Compare is 100% new.

Like much of our work, it started with customer requests. Rons Data Compare is a completely new product designed specifically for comparing two CSV files. It is built on the same proven technology that powers Rons Data Edit, while focusing on comparison and synchronization workflows.

Maintenance Work

Sometimes it's good to stop, take a step back, and take a hard look at where you are. Calling this work "maintenance" doesn't really do it justice, but I can't think of a better term. Here are some of the improvements we've made.

The Ribbon is gone

The Ribbon was always controversial. We received some positive feedback, but also plenty of criticism. After some reflection, we realized we were mostly trying to keep up with the trends of the time. Ironically, those trends have since changed, and even Microsoft is moving away from Ribbon-based interfaces in many places.

Add to that the fact that other operating systems (yes, we are planning versions for other OSs) don't generally support Ribbon interfaces, and the message became clear.

Visuals updated

As part of removing the Ribbon, we took the opportunity to review the visual design of all our products for consistency.

The result was a lot of work aligning styles, colors, and overall presentation, while also simplifying the user experience wherever possible. This kind of work is subjective and never really finished, but we're happy with how our products now look and feel.

We know looks aren't everything, but why not have great software and style?

Bugs fixed

Literally every bug reported to us has been fixed. These ranged from serious issues, including the occasional crash (sorry!), to visual glitches and general inconsistencies.

We're not going to list them all here (let's avoid the bad press), but the important point is this: we do listen.

Features added

For a complete list of changes, see the individual product histories, but here are a few highlights:

• WebLynx - Added a browser bookmarks side panel for importing links from any locally installed browser.
• Data Edit - Added document-per-window mode.
• Data Edit - Added Markdown copy, paste, and import support.
• Data Edit - Now includes Rons Data Tools (which was free anyway).

We still have a healthy list of ideas, requests, and improvements to work through (thank you all for the feedback), and the work continues.

Internal Maintenance

Rons Place Software has effectively been operational for decades. Over that time, parts of the codebase naturally became stale, duplicated, or simply outdated.

So this section really deserves the title of 'maintenance'.

Large portions of code have been consolidated, simplified, removed, or reorganized into a cleaner structure. Where practical, we've also reduced our reliance on external code and libraries.

Most of this work happens behind the scenes and will never appear in a feature list, but it makes our products more reliable, easier to maintain, and better positioned for the future.

Rest assured, you're in good hands.

Wrapping Up

As you can see, we've been busy. And guess what? We're not stopping.

We've retired some products, launched some new ones, fixed a mountain of bugs, cleaned up years of code, and somehow still managed to find more things we want to do.

So keep an eye on us 😜. The best way to predict our next release is to assume we're already working on it.
